Stepper or servo, start from the motor
The motor supply, frame, or wattage determines the hardware path. Both integrated drives use XMatrix, while retaining their own electrical ranges.
- DC 24–48VStepper supply
- 20–86Stepper frames
- AC 220VServo supply
- 100–1500WServo power
Separate the two integrated drives first
The integrated stepper drive runs a two-phase stepper from DC 24–48 V. Frame sizes are 20, 28, 35, 42, 57, 60, and 86, open loop or closed loop. The integrated servo drive covers AC 220 V at 100 W, 200 W, 400 W, 750 W, 1000 W, and 1500 W, with an incremental or absolute encoder.
Use the stepper path when the move repeats, speed is moderate, and a separate drive is not wanted. Use the servo path when the machine needs encoder feedback, higher speed, or the servo motor is already specified.
| Motor condition | Hardware | Items to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Two-phase stepper, frame 20–86 | Integrated stepper drive | DC 24–48 V, frame, open or closed loop |
| AC servo, 100–1500 W | Integrated servo drive | AC 220 V, wattage, encoder type |
| The motor already has a third-party drive | MSP1001 | Mode, signal level, common wiring, frequency |
When a drive is already there
A third-party drive uses MSP1001. The public conditions are AC 110–220 V supply, 5 V step and direction, and 100 kHz maximum. Before wiring, also confirm the control mode, the signal level, common anode or common cathode, and the frequency limit.
The drive brand does not define its interface. Its mode, signal level, common wiring, and frequency limit must all match MSP1001.
The software name does not identify the motor
- All three units can sit in one XMatrix project while retaining their own supply and motor ranges.
- Select open or closed loop for a stepper, and incremental or absolute encoder for a servo.
- A motor outside these frame or wattage ranges requires a separate check of the motor and drive conditions.
Selection conditions
Application: the motor is inside the published stepper DC 24–48 V range or the servo AC 220 V range.
Configuration: frame or wattage, open/closed loop or encoder type. For an existing drive, also confirm mode, level, common anode or cathode, and 100 kHz.
